SuperSport viewers will receive a double dose of soccer this season . . . just the medicine for all lovers of the beautiful game.

Selected Premier Soccer League and Coca-Cola matches played on Wednesdays are to be broadcast exclusively live on SuperSport 3 this season. On most Wednesdays local fans will be treated to a "double-header", with both matches shown live where kick-off times permit.

To whet the appetite, the match between Ajax Cape Town and Jomo Cosmos on Wednesday, August 3, will be screened live on the soccer channel.

The season only officially opens the following weekend, and on the next Wednesday, August 10, SuperSport will broadcast live coverage of matches featuring both defending league champions Kaizer Chiefs and runners-up Orlando Pirates.

The Chiefs match against newly-promoted Free State Stars will be televised live on SuperSport 3 from 15:15 in the afternoon, followed by the clash between Pirates and Bloemfontein Celtic, also live, from 19:30.

Where Wednesday matches kick-off at the same time, one of the matches will be televised live and a second will be recorded and broadcast immediately after the first game.

Apart from live coverage of the African Cup of Nations in January and February next year, SuperSport's soccer fare this season includes captivating viewing seven days a week. On Mondays we give you World Wide On The Ball, Soccer Africa is screened on Tuesdays, live local matches are on the menu on Wednesdays, Engen Premier Soccer is broadcast on Thursdays and Fridays will be devoted to previews of the weekend's local and English Premiership matches.

Also, the Cosafa Castle Cup semifinal match between Bafana Bafana and Zambia in Mmabatho on Saturday, August 13, at 15:30 will be screened live on SS 8.

As was the case last season, all 380 matches in the 2005/2006 English Premiership will be screened, either live or delayed, with live matches every Saturday and Sunday.

Add to that World Cup qualifiers, friendly internationals, Uefa Champions League, Uefa Cup, Cosafa Castle Cup, Caf Champions League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, Portuguese League, Copa Sudamericana, Argetinian League and Scottish Premier League and soccer fans will be well catered for in the coming season.

SuperSport 3 is available to both DStv and DStv Compact subscribers.

SuperSport CEO Imtiaz Patel said the company was delighted with the opportunity to broadcast more local soccer.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer our viewers these midweek matches, particularly since the recent launch of our Compact package makes DStv more affordable to more people," said Patel.

PSL CEO Trevor Phillips was enthusiastic about SuperSport's involvement in local soccer.

"I am pleased about the fact that we have many more mid-week fixtures and SuperSport's commitment to screening double headers, which adds value for our supporters," said Phillips. "The excellent quality of SuperSport's productions makes these matches a must for viewers."
