Black Stars as Ghana is affectionately known will be hoping to beat Uruguay in the quarterfinals to become the first African country to reach semi finals in the World Cup.

‘Docies’ speaking to kaizerchiefs.com earlier on Saturday (before the evening game) in Durban where he was watching Brazil vs. Portugal on the previous day had joined millions of Africans who were backing Ghana for victory against USA.

“It is important that Ghana win against US as they are the only African country remaining in the World Cup and I have no doubt that they will do us proud,” he said.

Khumalo who played in the 1998 World Cup in France added that he was enjoying the World Cup in his home soil, “I am thankful to the Almighty for protecting me over the years to ensure that I witness this tournament in my lifetime hosted for the first time in Africa and in my country of birth. We should give credit to all those who worked behind the scenes to ensure that we host what is the biggest sporting event in the planet,’ said Khumalo.

“As South Africans we should be really proud that we have been given an opportunity to host the world…it has been great and the football on the pitch has been top-notch stuff. It was pleasing to see the way Ghanaians played against US and it is something that should be celebrated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Doctor Khumalo a firm fan favourite during his playing days expressed his wish one day to be at the helm at the Club he joined as a teenager.

“It is my wish one day to coach at the high level, but I am happy where I am at this stage with the work I have been doing at junior level. I believe we have done well in producing players for the first team. The Coach (Vladimir Vermezovic) has to be commended for promoting four youngsters to the first team next season.

He has already proved that he is good working with the young players. The team showed towards the end of last season with a mixture of young and older players that it will be a force to be reckoned with and I have no doubt that the future of the Club is bright,” added Khumalo.

Doctor Khumalo born in Dube, Soweto has made 397 appearances for the Glamour Boys while he played 50 times for Bafana Bafana scoring 9 goals between 1992 and 2000.
