Goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker has told kaizerchiefs.com that he was not surprised on Saturday when Itumeleng Khune stopped David Villa’s penalty.

Rainer, who has trained the three goalkeepers currently with Bafana Bafana in the Confederations Tournament, believes that Khune who turned 22 on Saturday, can become one of the best stoppers in the continent.

“He is a true professional and despite all the hype about his game he continues to keep his head down,” revealed Dinkelacker.

“I told him on Saturday that his birthday present was to play against Spain. He watches lots of games on television and he probably knew where David Villa was going to direct his kick. I was not surprised at all when he stopped the kick,”

“The tournament (Confederations Cup) is definitely going to help his development as a goalkeeper. There is also a World Cup next year and the more he plays the better he will become,” he said.

“The game against Spain was a big test for him and I think he handled the pressure well. He will also be key on Thursday when they face Brazil.

“Last season was a very difficult season for him but I expect him to do well again this season for both the Club and country,” concluded Dinkelacker.
