The focus this week falls on Kaizer Chiefs U20 winger, Sibusiso Msomi. Recommended by the current U20 national team coach, Serame Letsoaka to the Club, Sbu has not looked back ever since he realised his dream to play for Kaizer Chiefs.

Sibusiso Msomi remembers vividly how he joined Kaizer Chiefs development, “I was playing for Bright Stars back at home (Empangeni) when I participated in Coca Cola U17 Tournament. It was then that Serame (Letsoaka) spoke to Floyd Mogale about me joining Kaizer Chiefs juniors. I came over to Joburg and signed immediately,” he said.

Sbu’s prowess on the field of play for the Development and reserve team in 2006 did not go unnoticed as Kostadin Papic, and then a coach of Kaizer Chiefs Head Coach recommended the first team sign in the youngster.

“It was a dream come true for me. I came from a disadvantaged background and determined to make difference at home. I got lot of support from my family and people back home who wanted to see me playing at the highest level. I am also thankful of the encouragement I received from people like Serame Letsoaka, Bright Gumede (Bright Stars Coach) and many others,”

Sibusiso said participating in the reserve league helped develop his game to another level, “It was a huge experience not only for me but for the likes of Tlou Molekwane, Steven Faba and many others. The coaching staff believed in us. It is still the same at U20 where we play under the guidance of Chiefs legend, Ace Khuse. We have done very well as a team and I have no doubt that some of the players in that team will in future don the first team jersey,” he says.

The Empangeni born remains hopeful of catching the current Kaizer Chiefs’ coach eye, Muhsin Ertugral, “I want to play in the first team but I know that I need to work very hard as there are good players currently playing in my position. I can only learn from players like Arthur Zwane who has loads of experience including David Mathebula,”

The speedy winger, who was part of the U17 squad during the African Youth Championships in 2005 still regards scoring a brace against Nigeria as a highlight of his career so far.

“I played with good players such Michael Nkambule, Tumelo Nhlapho - it was a pity that we did not make it to the final at least” he reflected.
