Kaizer Chiefs Reserves came away from a tricky away tie against Lamontville Golden Arrows with a well-earned 2-0 victory and three valuable points in the opening round of the 2024/25 Dstv Diski Challenge (DDC) on Sunday.
Njabulo Hlongwane opened the scoring in the 31st minutes and Pheko Phago added the second two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the match.
Meanwhile, in the SAFA Gauteng Development League (GDL), Amakhosi enjoyed an undefeated day against SuperSport United.
In the morning, the U13s drew 3-3, while the U15s played to a 1-1 stalemate. In the afternoon, however, Chiefs U17s beat Matsatsantsa U17s 2-1 and the U19s ended the series with a convincing 4-2 triumph.
Next Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs Reserves host Chippa United in their first DDC home fixture of the campaign.
The U13s, U17s and U19s from the Development Academy will take on the School of Excellence in the GDL at Elandsfontein on Saturday, 7 September, with the U15s participating against the same opposition in the U15s Festival in Vosloorus.
