World-renowned South African soccer television pundit and statistician Mark Gleeson has praised the Amakhosi's performance in their 2-0 victory over archrivals Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s Soweto derby.

Speaking from his office in Cape Town Gleeson said; “few expected Chiefs to play the way they did, for a team under such pressure to put up such a performance was really amazing.” He further added; “Chiefs were really creative in attack and showed innovation up front and in midfield something that was perhaps lacking in their past couple of games."

The well-known pundit also singled out Chiefs defender and former Orlando Pirates captain Jimmy Tau for special praise. “Everyone is aware that Tau left Pirates under acrimonious circumstances and for him to have played the way he did was just unbelievable. Any one who can go into such a big game with the pressure Jimmy was under and put in such a performance deserves all the praise he can get, Jimmy has shown he is made of the material needed to be a top class defender.”

Gleeson holds the opinion that Saturday’s victory over Pirates was the motivation Chiefs needed to lift themselves up after drawing seven games in a row prior to Saturday’s victory. “Chiefs need to keep the momentum going and not stop here, this victory should motivate them to make a real assault on retaining their PSL and Coca Cola Cup titles,” concluded Gleeson.
