Kaizer Chiefs Family in its totality would like to congratulate Itumeleng Khune whose team, Khune F.C. in Ventersdorp was promoted on Sunday to the SAB 3rd Division.

“Spider Kid” as Khune is affectionately known, was at his usual high spirits at the Village on Monday, could not hold his excitement about the progress made by the team.

“I am overwhelmed but mostly excited that people in Ventersdorp will now have a team participating in 3rd Division as from August this year,” said Khune.

The player also gave a background on how the idea of the team started, “It was back in 2002 when the idea to form a team came about. Some of Kaka’s (Lucky Khune) friends use to gather at our house and one day they thought it would be a good idea to form a team. I was at that time at Kaizer Chiefs Development and of course I supported the idea. Things were made easy as my father had a kit that was at home and they used it,”

“In 2007 after I won the Telkom Knockout with Kaizer Chiefs they decided to change the name of the team from Ventersdorp Destroyers to Khune F.C. I accepted the honour as I had been in the forefront since the formation of the Club. My mother Flora is the one responsible for the day to day running of the Club and is assisted by Wanda Moilwa. They update me on the developments as the Manager.”

I am grateful for the support I have received from both the community and my family, although my parents make me believe that the team is owned by me, I would say that the Khune Family owns it. We will be meeting shortly in preparation for August when the season starts,” added Khune.
