The Kaizer Chiefs Chairman and Managing Director, Kaizer Motaung has joined millions around the world in sending a message of condolences to the family of political stalwart, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburi. The Minister of Communications succumbed to death at the age of 71 on Monday due to natural causes.

Paying his respects, Mr. Motaung said the record of Ivy Matsepe-Casaburi speaks for itself. The Free State-born stalwart was the first woman to be appointed to CSIR, the first black woman to become chairperson of Santech, and the first chairperson of the board of SABC from 1993 to 1997.

Following the resignation of former President Thabo Mbeki, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburi served as the President of Republic of South Africa from 24 September 2008 until 25 September 2008.

“Death has once again robbed us of one of the most influential leaders of our time,” said Motaung on Tuesday morning.

“Despite not being well in the past couple of months, she continued to carry out her duties with distinction. As the Minister of Communications, she has made valuable contribution to the development of this country.”
