Condolences: The late Dr. Aggrey Klaaste

On behalf of the Kaizer Chiefs directors, management, players, staff and supporters, I express our profound shock at the sad news of the untimely death of Dr. Aggrey Klaaste, former editor-in-chief of the Sowetan, one of the finest South Africans to have worked with us from the times when it was criminal to criticise authorities.

Dr. Klaaste was the epitome of the field of journalism, his principles magnified the notion that knowledge comes but wisdom lingers and through that wisdom, he has conducted his business without fear even during those years of repression.

The nearer we come to great men, the more clearly we see they are only men, and that is what we came to know of Dr. Klaaste, though assertive but mortal, being vulnerable to life’ s cruel destination – death.

Were it not for the contribution of men like Dr. Klaaste football would not have been where it is today, his support, critisim and close observance has made us develop a passion for growth. Dr Klaaste was like a tree, he died at the top.

His was a life to be celebrated, his qualities to be copied and his values to be imitated. Our deepest condolences go to his lovely wife, and family and to the entire journalism fraternity. This ordeal is intended to make us better not bitter, for he has played his part.

May the Lord bless his departed soul.

Yours in sport,

KAIZER MOTAUNG

Kaizer Chiefs Chairman
