Condolences from all corners of the country have continued to pour for Dr. Phil Maepa who passed away on Friday with Kaizer Chiefs legend, Doctor Khumalo describing his loss as a “massive loss to the society”

“I still can’t believe that Dr. Maepa is no more. Having been told of his passing away on Friday, I drove straight home and called his brother again to confirm the news. Thing is to me, he was not only the doctor but a mentor. I looked up to him together with the likes of Mr. Kaizer Motaung when I lost my father.

Dr. Maepa was always there for me, he would take time to advice me. He was strict but not in a bad way, to encourage you. He looked after us together with the likes of Bobby while we were growing up. His loss is a serious one to the society” said Doctor Khumalo adding that he last spoke on the 27 July before he attended a SAFA Coaching Course.

Winger Arthur Zwane described Dr. Maepa as a “father”, “Bra Phil was a father, a friend and everything to me. He was there for me when things were not going my way. He was always encouraging. It is a huge loss”

“I spoke to him telephonically three weeks ago and he sounded fine” said Kit Stock Control Manager, David Khopotse.

“He was such a nice person who helped me to settle down when I joined Kaizer Chiefs. He made time for everyone. He treated everyone at the Village like his own brother. We will miss him” he added.

World renowned soccer journalist, Mark Gleeson said, “He was the nicest guy of South African football. In my opinion he was a very good doctor and the fact that he spent such a long time proves it”
