Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs believes that his rivalry and competition with Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune for the starting spot as Bafana goalkeeper is good for the team.

Speaking on Monday afternoon at a press briefing held at South Africa's World Cup camp in Johannesburg, Josephs said "the kind of competition that exists between me and Itumeleng is healthy and good for South Africa".

The competition between the Pirates stopper and Khune has been fierce with both keepers displaying great form when featuring in recent warm up games for Bafana Bafana.

Khune started South Africa's final warm-up game against Denmark on Saturday keeping a clean sheet while Josephs managed to do the same in the two previous games when he replaced Khune at half time during Bafana Bafanas wins over Colombia and Gutemala.

According to Josephs the form of both players has meant each player has lifted their game. "When you are competing for a place against another player it makes you play your best and he also raises his game. This is good for the team to have players competing at such a level for the same position".

Despite both keepers battling it out to be the number one for the country and start their opening game against Mexico on Friday, they will give their full backing to him, "Itumeleng and I are professional rivals who ever gets the nod from the coach to start on Friday the other guy will be right behind him".
