Coach delays squad announcement

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has decided to delay the announcement of his eighteen man squad that will camp out on Saturday night as they prepare for Sunday’s PSL clash with high flying Moroka Swallows.

The coach was due to announce to the 18 man squad, on midday Friday after the morning training session and has said that he will now do it 24 hours later after training on Saturday morning.

In explaining his reasoning behind delaying the selection process the coach said, “I felt I needed to examine a few more videos of our last couple of games and a few of Swallows last games.

Swallows have been playing well and I think I need to make a few tactical changes from our previous games so Friday afternoon through Friday night will give me the opportunity to prepare a bit more”.

Much has been made about the coach leaving out Scara Ngobese for the midweek clash with Santos - the coach has reiterated that the team needs to operate as a unit.

“I like to regard the squad as a team, a group of guys out for the same objective and sometimes maybe we all need to understand that we need to do things that will benefit the team.

Scara has realized that and he has put in a lot more effort at training this week. Having said that - no one is guaranteed a place in the team - every one has to prove that they are worth being not only in the starting eleven but in the 18 man squad” was the coaches response.

The coach also confirmed that there would be up to five changes in the squad from the one that took on Santos on Wednesday evening.
