Chiefs will rule next season – Banks

Legend, Joseph ‘Banks’ Sethlodi believes that the Glamour Boys will be a force to be reckoned with next season after finishing 3rd in the Absa Premiership table last season. Banks was speaking to kaizerchiefs.com during the Executive Golf Day held in Bryanston Country Club on Monday.

“The team started slowly but as the season progressed they did very well winning the Telkom Knockout. I think it is very important for all of us to rally behind the team coach and the team next season. I have no doubt that we will challenge for league honours next season,” said Banks.

“The coach was new last season and there were lots of new players coming through and that had an impact. I also think the team has a good mixture of experience and young players coming through the Club’s development ranks,” he said.

Banks who plays a lot of golf in his spare time admitted though that he did not do well on the golf pitch on Monday, “I think I put myself under a lot of pressure and I did not do well but I am sure I will bounce back with a bang next season,” he said with a smile.

“It’s funny that back in the 70s I used to be the only player who played golf at the Club and my teammates used to laugh at me saying that I was a better golfer than a footballer. It is always good to take time off and play some golf and contribute to charity,”

Banks who donned the Chiefs no. 1 jersey for more than a decade was also grateful to have been one of the legends honoured by the Executive Chairman, Kaizer Motaung during the Player’s Awards last month.

“I missed the function as my wife was not well. It is something very special to me...I won a couple of awards during my playing days but for me to be recognised while not playing is something to be proud of. I am honoured to have been associated with this brand. I was told that guys like Ten Ten (Nzimande) came through and when we meet - it’s always like old times as we are like brothers. I want to thank the Club for the honour,” he added.
