Kaizer Chiefs U19 side will be looking to overcome the challenge from their rivals, Orlando Pirates to qualify for the SuperSport U19 Cup quarterfinals when the two sides lock horns in Pimville, Soweto this afternoon.

The rivalry between the two sides has over the seasons filtered from senior teams to the junior teams and there will be no love lost again this afternoon as the battle for the semi final spot intensifies.

The current Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune was once quoted in one of the local magazines on how his ‘rivalry’ with Orlando Pirates striker, Excellent Walaza started in the development and how that has grown over the years with both players featuring for their respective senior teams.

The U19 side under the tutelage of Kaizer Chiefs legend, Donald “Ace” Khuse were in an uncompromising mood yesterday as they shrug ged off challenges from both De Beers and favourites, Supersport both games with 1-0 as a scoreline. On Friday the young Chiefs were held 1-all by Santos.

Chiefs are the clear favourites from Group C to qualify for the quarter finals with seven points, followed by Orlando Pirates with four points, Santos and Supersport are tied with two points with De Beers occupying the last spot.

Head of Development Walter Steenbok told kaizerchiefs.com that despite leading the group they will not be taking any chances when they meet with their archrivals this afternoon.

“The game against Orlando Pirates this afternoon is very important. Besides being the derby, we need to end the day on a positive note and ensure that we finish on top. This will allow us to meet possibly a weaker side, although I must say all the sides have looked much prepared for the tournament so we cannot expect any easy games. In the game against Orlando Pirates we will welcome our left back, Mzuvele Skhosana who was suspended in the Santos game back which is a real boost” he said.
