Chiefs U17 gear up for Gauteng Future Champs Tournament

Kaizer Chiefs U17 side will have an opportunity to test their skills with some of the best teams from Europe, Asia and South America when they participate in the Gauteng Future Champs Tournament to be staged at SAFA Soweto Development Centre from 23-28 March 2009.



The mouth-watering youth tournament is an initiative of Gauteng Provincial Government Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation and it is endorsed by the South African Football Association (SAFA).



They young Amakhosi are grouped in Pool B with Esperance (Tunisia), Corinthians (Brazil), and K Stars (Zambia).



Chiefs Head of Development, Walter Steenbok who attended the launch of the tournament on Friday said the draw will give the boys an opportunity to showcase their skills and how far they have gone in the past 10 weeks since the side was assembled.



“It is amazing how the side has gelled together having been assembled 10 weeks ago. This tournament with opponents from Africa and Brazil will now bring invaluable experience to our young side,” he said adding that winning the tournament will not be a priority but to give the boys an opportunity to take their game to another level.



The tournament that will see teams like Inter Milan (Italy), Moroka Swallows (SA), Mumbai Academy (India), Green City F.C. (China), Boca Juniors (Argentina) all showcasing their skills will kick off on the 23rd March with the final being played on the 28th Mach 2009.
