Kaizer Chiefs Under-17 showed class as they handed SAFA Tshwane a 5-2 drubbing in the opening game of the Gauteng Future Tournament held at Dobsonville Stadium on Monday morning.

Siyabonga Sibiya opened scoring as early as the 5th minute from the spot, but the Tshwane-based side levelled a few minutes later. In the 11th minute Thuthuka Khumalo, affectionately known as “Terror”, restored the lead with a well-taken goal (2-1 at halftime).

At the beginning of the second half, Menzi Hlophe, hailing from Ndengezi in Durban, made it three as the young Chiefs looked at consolidating the result. However, a minute later, Chiefs conceded a soft goal when goalkeeper, Sibusiso Mabaso, failed to handle the ball, allowing the opposition striker to tap in easily (3-2).

Highly rated striker, Andile “Eto’o” Nqabeni, scored the ‘goal of the game’ when he beat two defenders before curling the ball away from the goalkeeper, leaving him watching helplessly. There was still time for Nkululeko “Terror” Zwane to put the game beyond reasonable doubt as he made it 5-2 two minutes later with a superb finish.

Captain Nkululeko “China” Ntshangase attributed the victory to discipline. “We did exactly what the coaches told us before the game. We struggled a little bit in the first half as we were not used to the ground but in the second half we played our normal game. We could have scored more goals and it is something that we need to improve on. Also, at the back at times we lost concentration. I am sure we will be ready for Team Dublin on Tuesday,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs Under-17 will meet Team Dublin on Tuesday, January 26, who lost 1-0 to Shandong Luneng on Monday afternoon. Kick-off is at 11:15am at Dobsonville Stadium.
