MTN 8 Semi-final (First Leg)

Venue: Loftus Versfeld

Date: 16 August 2008

Kick off: 20h15

Kaizer Chiefs (Schalkwyk 8, Torrealba 21)

Moroka Swallows

Cautions: Mathebula, Afonso, Haskins

Kaizer Chiefs’ superiority against rivals Moroka Swallows continued on Saturday night at Loftus Stadium as two goals from on form, Gert Schalkwyk and other from his partner upfront, Jose Torrealba sent Moroka Swallows back to Dube with their tails between their legs. Swallows static defence had no answers to the fast-paced Chiefs on the night. Muhsin Ertugral had made one change to the side that walloped Santos last week bringing Mokete Tsotetsi for the injured Valery Nahayo.

The hosts, Chiefs started where they left off last week against Santos when Schalkwyk found the back of the net with a low shot at the eighth minute following some neat work from Jose Torrealba whose back heel set Gert for his third goal in two games.

Then from a corner kick, Torrealba found the back of the net with Swallows defence at sea. Schalkwyk should have made it three minutes later when Swallows defender, Davi Afonso slipped but the striker shot agonisingly wide with only a keeper to beat.

The visitors tried to claw their way back into the game towards the end of first half but found Kaizer Chiefs defence marshalled by Ghanaian, Jonathan Quartey in an uncompromising mood.

Swallows started strongly in the second stanza as Brazilian, Afonso’s free kick from 30 yard out sailed over the bar. Chiefs should have added the third goal of the night following a good run by Jonathan Quartey from the back but striker, Torrealba delayed the ball allowing Swallows defence to clear the danger.

Ertugral would be pleased with his side as they go to Rusternburg this coming weekend with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
