It was Amakhosi’s second highest score following the 5-0 outcome against Black Leopards on September 9. On that occasion veteran midfielder John "Shoes" Moshoeu was on fire and contributed three goals. Swaziland international Sibusiso Dlamini also came to the party with a solitary goal and the other coming from Arthur Zwane.

Against Royals, Moshoeu was at his usual best and troubled the home side along with Thabo Mooki and Stanton Fredericks. Kaizer Motaung Jr was also given a run and contributed to the fourth goal.

Bafana Bafana international Patrick Mayo put Chiefs in the lead with his third goal of their campaign just before the half hour mark. The home side could not contain the pressure and handed the visitors a 2-0 advantage with an own goal.

Young defender Sam Nzama - under pressure from Mayo - tried to clear for a corner but only succeeded in guiding the ball into his own net.

Chiefs added two more in the second half to take a four-point lead at the top. The situation could change based on the outcome of the match between second-placed Ajax Cape Town and Sundowns at Odi Stadium later in the evening.

Midfielder Stanton Fredericks made it 3-0 on the 64th minute and Sbusiso Dlamini, who received a delightful pass from debutant Motaung Jr put the matter to rest on the 90th minute. Motaung Jr came on for Mayo on 77 minutes for his first game in the black and gold this season.

Elsewhere, Adam Ndlovu gave Dynamos a 2-0 lead - to increase his overall tally to five league goals - against Manning Rangers in another match that kicked off at 16:00. But the Durban visitors moved up a gear in the second half and were rewarded with two goals to tie the match. Abram Isaks reduced the deficit on 59 minutes and Dale Studzinski on 71 minutes.

Fernandez back in goals

Goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez, a finalist in the 2003 Coca-Cola Cup Player of the Tournament, is back in goals for Amakhosi in their Premiership match against .

Fernandez missed the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates over the weekend as the Amakhosi technical team opted for Brian Baloyi, who has appeared in more derbies than Fernandez.

Defender Isaac Mabotsa also makes his first start for Amakhosi at left back with strikers Patrick Mayo and Musasa leading the attack.

Midfielder Jabu Pule started on the bench with Mooki and Fredericks given the run alongside Coke Player of the Tournament Moshoeu and Zimbabwean Tenashe Nengomasha.

Meanwhile, former Amakhosi stars Thabiso Malatsi and Lucky Maselesele were given an early run with the hope of unsettling their former teammates. The plan did not produce desired effects as the Royals team struggled to play as a unit.
