Having been minutes away from exiting the ABSA Cup once again at the last sixteen stage, The Amakhosi were more than pleased to be part of Monday’s midday draw for the quarterfinals.

Chiefs had a narrow and heart stopping victory over Mvela Golden League team City Pillars on Saturday evening and needed a 92nd minute goal from Louis Agyemang to force extra time, where Chiefs eventually overcame Pillars 5-4.

Chiefs were in good company in Monday’s draw with fellow PSL title, contenders Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates also through to the quarterfinals, amid the noise and excitement of the draw, which was open to the public and held at the Carlton Centre in the Johannesburg CBD.

The PSL front runners avoided each other as Pirates drew second division team Hanover Park of Cape Town and Sundowns will travel to Bloemfontein to take on Ditheko Mototo’s former team Bloemfontein Young Tigers.

The Amakhosi meanwhile will be facing Black Leopards at home in the quarterfinals and will be hoping for a repeat performance from when the two teams met once previously in a cup encounter back in 2004 in the SAA Supa8 quarterfinals which Chiefs won 2-1.

Matches for the ABSA Cup Quarterfinals are scheduled to take place over the weekend of the 15th – 16th April, which coincides with the Easter weekend.
