Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral will have the perfect opportunity to gauge the progress made by his team since they resumed training on the 5th January when they face up to the challenge of one of the on-form teams in the Vodacom League Western Cape Stream Vasco Da Gama on Sunday afternoon in Stellenbosch.

Vasco based in Cape Town will according to Chiefs coach, provide stern opposition for The Amakhosi as they are one of the strongest and technically sound teams in what is essentially the third tier of South African top-flight football. The fact that Vasco have set out to gain promotion to the National First Division by the end of the current season means that they will come with their best game to Stellenbosch.

Tough opponent

Vasco have according to Ertugral the right mix of players to be able to provide The Amakhosi with a tough outing on Sunday. Ertugral said of the upcoming friendly match “we were looking to play a team first up who could provide us with the kind of challenge which could help us work on our match fitness. Vasco are the kind of team who are trying themselves to gain promotion to a higher division and this will be an opportunity for them to test themselves as well, they will be out to prove that to themselves they can play at a higher level and that will make for an interesting match up”.

Youthful Experiment

Sunday’s game, although labeled as a friendly encounter, will be used by the coach to blood some of his younger players. The coach said it will be the opportunity for them to show him that they have the hunger to want to play week in and week out for Chiefs.

“The time has come for the younger guys to step up to the plate and begin to get counted, it is up to them to use these friendly games as the platform to convince me that they are ready for regular first team action. Ertugral can provide the opportunities but it is for them to go out and use what they have gained in the training sessions to put up a sound and professional showing, their performances are just as important to me as the overall result is”.
