Kaizer Chiefs will travel to the Milpark Stadium for Wednesday evening's Johannesburg derby against BidVest Wits looking to improve on their current league standings. Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral will be well aware that coming away with the full compliment of points against a Wits team, who are currently third in the standings, will take a lot of hard work from his team.

Chiefs are winless after two matches since the league resumed fixtures a week ago while their opponents on Wednesday, were victorious against Jomo Cosmos last Wednesday, but were on the losing end in their following match against Orlando Pirates over the weekend.

This season so far

The first time the teams met this season was at the end of August last year when a match which the Students won, thanks to a penalty converted by Noach Chivutha after Moketi Tsotetsi was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.

Overall though it was a match which Chiefs dominated and had ample scoring opportunities, but were denied by some sublime goalkeeping from the BidVest Wits keeper Moeneeb Josephs, who came up with some saves at point blank range to deny Chiefs from scoring.

The pick of his stops was a save he made off a Shaun Bartlett header which had goal written all over it in the 75th minute, when he stuck a foot out on his goal line to prevent Bartlett’s down ward header from going in”.

Ertugral on Alert

Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral has said that Wits have been one of the surprise packages of the current campaign, and he has been impressed by the work put in by Roger Da Sa in turning around the Students' fortunes from a season ago.

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com about the upcoming match up with them, Ertugral said “Roger has impressed me with what he has done with Wits this season. They're playing good football and are looking like a very strong team and could well remain in the title race till the end of the season. Of our meeting with them I think we saw from the August match that they are very well organized team in all departments and, had it not been for Josephs playing the way he did, I feel we would have won the match.

"I do feel that looking ahead to Wednesday’s match, he will again be one of their key players, so will defender Ashraf Hendricks apart from being a stable force at the back, he can also score goals as he demonstrated by scoring a brace against Jomo Cosmos last week”.
