Chiefs taking low-key approach for SuperSport
Chiefs taking low-key approach for SuperSport

Kaizer Chiefs got a much needed boost with their midweek victory over BidVest Wits and it was a case of taking the three points and climbing four places in the league standings for Muhsin Ertugral and his men.

The Chiefs coach now knows that complacency cannot creep into the ranks and will not want all the hard work that was done with the victory over the students undone by a below pare performance against SuperSport.

Like Wits SuperSport are one of the high flying teams in the league and are in second place behind Ajax Cape Town on the standings, their title surge though was halted when they were only able to manage a draw against Jomo Cosmos on Wednesday evening.

Chiefs will take heart from the fact that they were able to find goals against Wits with Veteran striker Shaun Bartlett scoring his fourth league goal of the season, and David Obua securing the points with a stunning injury time strike. The win would have given Chiefs the necessary confidence to believe that they can achieve their first league win over SuperSport in almost three seasons on Saturday evening, as Chiefs last tasted victory in a league encounter against SuperSport in May 2005.

Ertugral’s tip

Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral has prepared his team to be ready to face another stern and challenging test against SuperSport on Saturday, this match is the second of what will be Chiefs facing the top three teams in successive league games.

Ertugral has tipped SuperSport to win the league this season and justified his statement by saying, “Gavin Hunt has a very young and energetic team at his disposal. Having the kind of players he has means that his team come at you for ninety minutes, SuperSport will be just as hard to beat as Wits were on Wednesday.

For us to show that we have turned the corner we need to win this match and put together a row of victories which will keep us in tact with the top three”.

Earlier in the Season

When the two teams faced off earlier in the season it was a day after Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral had celebrated his celebrated 48th on the 15th September, the teams clashed on the 16th.

Unfortunately though his charges were unable to gift-wrap three points for him and the teams played out a goalless draw, Chiefs though could not be found guilty for not trying as they did stretch SuperSport at times in the game and it was the SuperSport keeper Dennis Onyango who was the match saver for SuperSport saving well from David Obua’s and Mabhudi’s Khenyeza in the latter stages of the match.

The teams also met in a Telkom Knock Out Cup ¼ Final game earlier in the season, Chiefs won that one thanks to a solitary Siphiwe Tshabalala goal.
