Kaizer Chiefs suffered their first defeat of the year 2009 when Moroka Swallows did a double over the mighty Amakhosi in an entertaining encounter played at Olympia Stadium on Saturday night, following a well taken brace by striker, Sandile Ndlovu.

Swallows became the only team to beat Chiefs for the second time in the league this season after Swallows won the first round in the same stadium back in October 2008.

Muhsin Ertugral made one change to the team that played Ajax Cape Town last weekend, replacing injured Nigerian Ibe Zito Ogbonna, handing a debut to new signee, Josta Dladla.

It was Swallows though who got off to a flying start as early as second minute when striker, Ndlovu rose the highest to head in Lefa Tsutsulupa’s free kick. The hosts, Chiefs nearly grabbed an equaliser when Kaizer Motaung Jr was allowed to turn and shoot inside the box following a superb delivery from Abia Nale.

Goalkeeper, Emille Baron was called to duty twice when Tsutsulupa was given a space to shoot just outside the 18 area but the Cape Town born goalkeeper pulled a superb save. Then minutes later he denied striker, Ndlovu with another spectacular save.

The Glamour Boys were denied what looked like a penalty when Vinicius Da Silva pushed Motaung Jr. inside the box but the referee, Robert Sithole awarded a free kick just outside the 18 yard area.

With action swinging on both sides Swallows striker, David Radebe did well to lobby the ball over Baron but was denied by the brilliance of Wayne Matle who cleared over the line keeping the score at 1-0 to Swallows.

The visitors, Swallows consolidated their lead when Ndlovu grabbed his brace in the 49th minute following a sublime cross from Sibusiso Khumalo, 2-0 to Swallows.

In-form Motaung Jr. pulled one back for Amakhosi in the 90th minute but it was a little too late as Chiefs suffered their seventh defeat of the season.

The loss left Chiefs on fifth position with 30 points after 19 games, they will now have to dig deeper when they meet relegation-threatened, Bloemfontein Celtic at Super Stadium in Pretoria next Saturday.
