Kaizer Chiefs and Tottenham Hotspur took time on Friday evening to reminisce about old memories and strengthen their relationship when the two Clubs met at a Gift Exchange Dinner in Polokwane on Friday evening.

Spurs first toured South Africa back in 1963 and they were here back in 2003 and in 2007 where a similar event between the two Clubs was held in Durban.

A visibly delighted Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung spoke to kaizerchiefs.com on Friday night about what went down at the function that was attended by dignitaries from the two Clubs, Vodacom, SAIL and the Executive Mayor of Polokwane, His Worship Cllr Freddie Greaver.

“It was a nice and intimate event with both Clubs reminiscing about the memories of the past. It is not long ago when we had a similar event in Durban. I remember on the night we presented them with gold Vuvuzela.”

“The instrument is always a hot topic every time when we get to meet with our European counterparts.”

“We also had the Mayor of Polokwane who has really embraced us as a Club on what has now become our ‘home away from home.”

“We handed them a memorabilia of the first trip back in 2007. We also handed individual awards to some of the dignitaries that had attended. Spurs on their side handed a Hotspurs Opus, a book that contains the rich history or Spurs weighing 33 kg’s. It was a rare gift because they have only made 1000 of those books.”

Jessica also paid a glowing tribute to the London based side for the work there are doing with the kids in South Africa,” We are quite intrigued as the Club to see a team of Spurs caliber giving back to the South Africa. The work they are doing with children through SOS Village and the partnership they have for development is quite amazing.”

“We also spoke about business of football, the way the structure their season tickets, their plans to have a new ground, social media. It was also interesting for us to find out that they have a tour sponsor instead of one sponsor, a nice concept indeed.

“ It was a great pleasure to spend time with legend Gary Mabbut who spoke highly of what the Club and the Executive Chairman (Kaizer Motaung) has achieved in our 41 year of history,” added Motaung.
