Kaizer Chief produced a superb second half performance to hand Bay United a 2-0 defeat in an entertaining Absa Premiership clash at EPRU Stadium on Wednesday night. Midfielder, Siphiwe Tshabalala gave Chiefs a lead in the 70th minute with Kaizer Motaung Jr putting in a nail in the coffin in the dying minutes of the game.

It was a good result for Muhsin Ertugral and his gallant team but for Bay United, the result left them with more questions than answers as they sank deeper to relegation zone.

Kaizer Chiefs welcomed back Tinashe Nengomasha and Siphiwe Tshabalala back in the starting line up after missing out last weekend’s clash against Free State Stars while Wayne Matle replaced injured Jeffrey Ntuka. Muhsin Ertugral also handed winger, Josta Dladla his second start in the gold and black in a place of veteran winger, Arthur Zwane.

It was Bay United though who had a brighter start when they came close on two occasions; first Maphelo Galada’s fierce shot went just wide of Khune’s goals after the striker created a space to shoot. Then, Vincent Khumalo followed with another strike that also went just wide. This was following a cheeky flick from Maphelo Galada.

Chiefs looked dangerous every time they went forward but were let down by their last touches in the last quarter of the field. Midfielder, David Mathebula and Siphiwe Tshabalala in particular gave the hosts’ nightmares with their slick touches.

The latter was in the thick of things again as he set up for Abia Nale who ballooned his shot just outside goalkeeper’s box.

Then Arthur Bartman reacted quickly to close down Kaizer Motaung Jr who was running to a superb long ball from David Mathebula.

Chiefs missed a chance to go ahead in the game when Arthur Bartman denied Kaizer Motaung Junior from a close range and Abia Nale did well to follow up but his shot went over the bar, 0-0 at half time.

At the beginning of second half, Bay United brought Patrick Mayo for Asanda Mvalo but it was Chiefs who threatened first as Kaizer Motaung Jr forced Arthur Bartman to make another save as Chiefs searched for an opener. The move was following good interplay between livewire, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Abia Nale.

Cyril Nzama’s flying header went just over the bar as Bay pilled the pressure on the visitors. This was following a well taken corner by left footed, Siyabulela Songwiqi.

Siphiwe Tshabalala grabbed the lead for the Glamour Boys in the 70th minute following a terrific pass from his teammate, David Mathebula. Siphiwe had to score via a rebound as Arthur Bartman saved his initial shot, 1-0 to Chiefs.

Substitute, Michael Nkambule came close to scoring his first official goal for the Club when he turned Bay United defence in and out but his curled shot went agonisingly wide.

With Chiefs in total control of the proceedings they added their second goal of the net courtesy of striker, Kaizer Motaung Jr from a close range, 2-0 to Chiefs.

The win saw Chiefs retaining third place in the Premiership with 44 points.
