The Amakhosi will be looking at putting pressure on log leaders, SuperZport United this weekend when they travel to Durban to meet with the unpredictable AmaZulu, fondly known as Usuthu.

Kaizer Chiefs is currently occupying third spot with 33 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns who are on 34 points and log leaders SuperSport United on 37 points.

David Mathebula, who won the Man of the Match award for his five-star performance against AmaZulu in the corresponding fixture last year, has told kaizerchiefs.com that they cannot afford to drop any points if the Club is to challenge for the Absa Premiership title.

“It is now very tight at the top. We are taking the game against Amazulu very serious because we cannot afford to drop points at this stage of the season. The difference between us and log leaders is four points and we have to close that gap to put pressure on them,” said Mathebula.

Mathebula is aware that he will be strictly watched following his performance after coming on as a second half substitute against Celtic. It was “DVD” - as the player is affectionately known - who created Kaizer Motaung Junior’s winner on Saturday night.

“It is normal that clubs focus on players whom they think are on good form. I am aware that I will be closely watched by the opposition after the contribution I made against Celtic and of course the way I played against them in the first round. This makes it easier for a player though especially when surrounded by good players in the team,” he added.
