Three thousand (3000) screaming fans rocked up at Nike Centre on Sunday afternoon to witness the reveal of the new launched Kaizer Chiefs strip for the upcoming season.

Among those who came through was Club’s Executive Chairman, Kaizer Motaung who joined other VIP guests on top of the multimillion building in Pimville, Soweto.

The Club was also represented by Marketing Director Jessica Motaung, Brand Manager Dara Carroll and other members of the Management team.

On his arrival, the Executive Chairman quietly stood alone looking towards Phefeni, a place that holds a special place in his heart.

It was in Phefeni, Orlando West where Kaizer Chiefs was formed and since 7 January ‘Chincha Guluva’ as Kaizer Motaung is affectionately known in football circles has seen the Club’s strip evolving in terms of design.

“It is good to be back in Soweto. Standing here today took me back to where we have come from as the Club and the design of the jersey captures that…it is like going back to our roots,” he told kaizerchiefs.com.

Motaung was also pleased to see the majority of fans who attended the event wearing the new jersey, “This is a clear indication that Kaizer Chiefs faithful is pleased with the design of the jersey. I am also told that the fans also packed our shop at the Village to purchase the new jersey,” added Motaung SR.

EL Capitan, Jimmy Tau recently voted as Club’s Player of the Year was also pleased with the new design and an opportunity to interact with the fans in Soweto ahead of what promises to be a grueling season.

“I have no doubt that the jersey is going to serve as an inspiration to the team. It is a unique design indeed and credit should go to the Club and Nike for such innovation.”

“It is also something special for us to come here to Soweto for the reveal of the jersey. Soweto remains a special place in the hearts of everyone involved with the Club because it was here where it all started 41 years ago.

Already you can see the way our supporters were singing and dancing - that just like us they are excited about the challenges ahead.”

The team had arrived in the Kaizer Chiefs branded bus and soon after the event they left for Pretoria where they will be camping for ten days before departing for Polokwane. They left a lasting impression to the young footballers who had an opportunity to train with the team.

Head Coach, Vladimir Vermezovic oversaw the training session.

Meadowlands born youngster, Rhulani Ntutu (18) speaking to kaizerchiefs.com was still over the moon ages after the team had left the Soweto Nike Centre, “I have always seen the players on television.

It has always been a dream of mine, and I am sure I speak for the other guys, to train with the team. I was looking forward more to see Mthokozisi Yende and Jimmy Tau as I have always admired them. They told me that there are no short cuts to success and I will need to work harder than the rest to make it in life.”

Rhulani also warned that ‘soon’ a player from Meadowlands will play for Chiefs to emulate legend Arthur Zwane, “I have noticed that since Arthur (Zwane) retired, no player from Meadowlands have raised the bar at Chiefs and it not going to be long before you see a player from Ndofaya donning the gold and black.”
