When asked as to whether he felt that Leopards have the beating of Chiefs he chose his words correctly when answering and said “at the moment we are playing good football and would like to bring home a trophy as we have not won a trophy since we came into the PSL”.
Chief was also quick to point out the fact that they have held Kaizer Chiefs to two draws during the season, the first being in September when the two teams played to a nil all draw at the historic ‘behind closed doors’ game. In the return fixture played in the heat of Thoyandou the two teams played out a four-goal thriller and ended honours even as they drew 2-2. The Amakhosi have only once faced Lidoda Duvha in a cup match some two years ago when Collins Mbesuma struck twice to give Chiefs a 2-1 victory.
On the other side The Amakhosi could not be more serious about winning a game after recently dropping vital points in the title race - Ernst Middendorp does not want to lose sight of this piece of silverware. “ Leopards are playing some good football at the moment, in the previous rounds they dealt with Bloemfontein Celtic and then had a some what easier game against Witbank Spurs. They are a tricky team and we are looking forward to playing them” said a confident Ernst Middendorp.
The Chiefs coach continued further by adding “I am happier playing a PSL team as we showed against SuperSport that when we are faced with a challenge we respond better. Against Pillars we took things easy - playing Leopards is better for us”.
As the media collected the various PRO’S and club officials for photographs and interviews, Amakhosi director of communications Thebe Mohatle and Chief of Leopards wrestled each other to get their hands on the ABSA Cup trophy. We now wait with bated breath to see who will triumph in the big clash of the ABSA Cup ¼ Finals on Saturday evening at the FNB Stadium.
