Chiefs ready to exorcise SAA Supa8 Ghost

Amakhosi are presented with the perfect opportunity to exorcise the demons of the SAA Supa8 quarterfinals of earlier this season when Chiefs opponents on Saturday defeated the Amakhosi 2-1.

The match itself though is more remembered for incidents that occurred in the immediate aftermath of the referee blowing his final whistle, as certain elements in the crowd began tearing down and burning parts of the FNB Stadium. Celtic went on to win the SAA Supa8 and there were joyous scenes when the team returned home to Bloemfontein.Things soon turned sour as the team found themselves in the relegation zone and are currently thirteenth in the league.

Chiefs did travel late in September to Bloemfontein where they dominated play but could only manage a 1-1 draw, in what was a game of high drama. The Amakhosi first lost goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez through injury late in the first half and he was substituted at half time. Stand-in keeper Emile Baron was unfortunate as he cleared the ball only to watch Rotson Kilmabe fire past him to give Celtic the lead. Chiefs fought back and Louis Agyemang proved to be the clever as he used his head to equalize and level proceedings. With time running out Chiefs had the opportunity to wrap things up, Fabian McCarthy could only look on in wonder as he headed the ball against the up right late in injury time.

Celtic since parting company with coach Paul Dolezar a fortnight ago, have collected the maximum number of points since the wryly Frenchman went back home, with victories over Dynamos and a miraculous come from behind victory over Mamelodi Sundowns. Phunya Sele Sele are still vulnerable at the back and Chiefs will be out to take advantage of this and will be hoping for a similar result to last season's corresponding fixture when Chiefs triumphed by a 4-1 score line over Celtic.

Although the going might be tough against Celtic, The Amakhosi will be hungry for three points, which will keep them within touching distance of Pirates and Sundowns, at the top of the PSL standings.
