Chiefs quartet called up by Mosimane

Stand in Bafana Bafana Coach Pitso Mosimane named four Chiefs players in his squad of twenty one who will take on Namibia at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, in Windhoek on the 16th of August.

Mosimane who is currently deputizing for former Brazilian World Cup Winning coach Carlos Alberto Parreira who will take over the reigns as the new South African national team coach in a couple of months time, when it is thought that Mosimane will move into an assistant coaches role.

On Tuesday Mosimane caused a number of murmurs when he announced his squad which included former Bafana Bafana misfits the likes of Benni McCarthy and Quinton Fortune.



The Supersport United coach chose four Chiefs players in the team that will take on the Namibian’s, Mosimane has selected a Chiefs player for each of the departments on the field starting with Goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez through Amakhosi Captain and central defender Cyril Nzama.

Completing the quartet of The Amakhosi’s involvement in the Bafana Bafana squad are midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi and Gert Schalkwyk who has been selected for his attacking prowess and not his midfield abilities.



Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp was immediately pleased for his players who had been selected for the national team adding, “all of our players who were selected really deserve their call up’s and I hope they get a chance to play in the game”.

The Chiefs coach was also pleased with the fact that a number of players from PSL Champions Mamelodi Sundowns were selected by Mosimane as he said “Sundowns are the champions of the country and it is only fair that them and us have a good representation in the team, just think of Surprise Moriri and Siyabonga Nkosi in the same team what a combination”.



Chiefs goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez upon hearing the news that he had been drafted into the team added the following “my aim has been to get back into the national team and I will take it call up by call up but my aim is to cement my place in the team over the next couple of years”. Chiefs midfielder cum striker Gert Schalkwyk also expressed his joy at his call up to the national team “all of the Chiefs players who have been called up to the team have worked us to get the attention of the selectors.

I believe that I had a good pre season campaign and I will use this opportunity to build myself and go from strength to strength as a player”.



Bafana Bafana will gather on the 13th of August at a hotel in Sandton in Johannesburg before jetting off to Windhoek for the game. The Chiefs coach is expecting his players to report back for training any time between the 17th and 18th August.
