Chiefs pre-match warm-up
Chiefs pre-match warm-up

Chiefs took to what is a bumpy rand stadium pitch for their warm up in front of rows

and rows of a sparsely populated rand stadium.

The players first entered into a huddle in the centre of the pitch before coach Ernst

Middendorp divided them into two groups.

On the one side were the starting eleven and on the other end the substitutes warmed up

together while the goalkeepers went to the western goal mouth of the stadium.

Coach Middendorp has been critical of a pitch which was once hailed as the best in the

country but looks more like a pitch fit for a Sunday social league game instead of a PSL

match.

Chiefs calm ahead of Ezenkosi clash

The Amakhosi arrived at the Rand Stadium ahead this afternoon’s game

against Jomo Cosmos looking cool calm and collected with most of the players opting to sit

alone on the bus with Walkmans or ipods in use, focusing on the game.

The players disembarked from the cool environment of the air conditioned Intercape

liner to be greeted by the sweltering highveld heat.

With temperatures at the Rand Stadium around 28 degrees Celsius coach Ernst Middendorp

has said that the Amakhosi have been training for the past few days at the same time to

acclimatize to the heat.

Chiefs’ veteran midfielder Shoes Moshoeu did point out that the last time the

Amakhosi played a match that kicked off on a Wednesday afternoon Chiefs triumphed 5-0. On

that occasion three seasons ago Chiefs outclassed the birds and they will be hoping for a

similar score line this afternoon.
