Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp

“We cannot read much into the results from Pirates point of view, because they are in a rebuilding phase as they await the arrival of their new coach. From our point of view it was the kind of result that we really wanted and got, we felt that we could have beaten Manchester United the first time we played them and now we get the opportunity to have a second bite at the red cherry. Over all we were fluent in our play and I felt that we supported our strikers well and gave them the right kind of balls which helped us get the goals. We have a tough game ahead of us now and we will once again leave nothing to chance in our preparations, if we work hard then we get the kind of results that help us make greater strides during our preparation time.

Kaizer Chiefs captain Fabian McCarthy

“It seems as though the Bafokeng Sports Palace has taken a liking to me. The last time I was captain was at this ground and we also scored two goals on that day, when we beat Silver Stars. I must really thank all of the guys for playing their hearts out and for scoring a well earned victory over Pirates. No matter what the occasion defeating Pirates is always sweet”.

Kaizer Chiefs striker Shaun Bartlett

“Scoring a goal is always nice and to score one in what is fundamentally your first Soweto derby is even better and feels more satisfying. The guys really showed a lot of guts and determination and judging by the way we played we really deserved the win, the team is beginning to play as a unit and we getting to know each other better and better which can only be good for us. Getting another go at Man United is good for the guys as we now know what we are up against and we can plan better for them and we will”.
