Kaizer Chiefs suffered their heaviest defeat of the season amid controversial circumstance in Tunis as they went down 4-0 to Esperance of Tunisia in their third round, first leg African Champions League clash on Saturday.

Zaiem Kamel gave the hosts the advantage with two converted penalties on 12 and 16 minutes. Pereira Dos Santos added the third on 20 minutes while M'Nari Jaouhar put his name on the score sheet on 82 minutes to give the a healthy 4-0 lead going into the second leg to be played in South Africa in two weeks.

Esperance continue harassing the Chiefs goal taking three shots at goal to one within the opening 10 minutes.

The home finally break the deadlock within the first 15 minutes, with a little help from the officials. Two penalties and Chiefs are 2-0 down.

The going gets really tough for Chiefs and the referee is not helping matters either. Esperance are now 3-0 ahead.

Things are not looking good for Amakhosi but Mbesuma seems to be troubling the hosts and he is proving to be a real threat.

Chiefs are now looking more solid and focused as the second half gets underway. There is still hope and Amakhosi need to score a goal to lift their spirits. Mayo is out through injury and replaced by Kubeka on 51 minutes.

Fernandez does well to deny Esperance from a free-kick on 54 minutes. Two minutes later Chiefs make a change with Gerald Sibeko coming on for Radebe. Moshoeu moves up front to partner Mbesuma in attack.

Fabian McCarty accidentally collides with an Esperance player on 60 minutes and has to be taken off the field. Meantime it starts raining.

Esperance make a substitution with Udah Damien Chigozie coming on for Jemma Issam on 67 minutes. Esperance make another substitution on 71 minutes with Ekhousuehi Master Edorisi coming on for Kazdaoui Hamdi.

Chiefs make a second substitution with Scara Ngobese coming on for Mooki on 76 minutes. Two minutes later Esperance make another substitution with Bhairi Zied on for Zaiem Kamel.

Esperance grab the fourth with eight minutes to go.

Four minutes of stoppages to be added on.

Chiefs coach Ted Dumitru named a relatively strong and attack-minded squad for the third round, first leg African Champions League match against Esperance.

Zambian star Collins Mbesuma will lead the attack along with the speedy and hard-working David Radebe. Veteran midfielder John Moshoeu will provide more attacking options as he gets a run ahead of youngster Gerald Sibeko.

The usual suspects, Patrick Mayo, Patrick Mabedi, Fabian McCarthy and Cyril Nzama, will marshal the defence.
