Another late surge gave the Glamour Boys a 3-1 win over ten-man Platinum Stars in an entertaining clash played at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday night.

Siphiwe Tshabalala grabbed an equaliser for the Amakhosi in the 27th minute after the visitors had taken an early lead in the 19th minute through Henricho Botes.

Chiefs came strongly in the last 15 minutes scoring two goals via substitutes, Jose Torrealba and Kaizer Motaung Jr.

Coach Vladimir Vermezovic opted to keep faith to the team that did the business against Maritzburg United in Durban three days ago in hope of getting a double over Platinum Stars this season. The team did not disappoint as they ensure that the Glamour Boys registered their third win in a row which took them to third position in the log behind leaders SuperSport United and Santos.

The match started in a blistering pace with both teams looking at unsettling each other early in the game but it was Chiefs who fired the first warning with striker Nkosinathi Nhleko coming close twice in the opening stages.

First he watched his cracking strike from an awkward angle going just over the bar and minutes later, defender Mbulelo Mabizela had to make a desperate tackle inside the box to deny Nhleko who was set up by Tinashe Nengomasha.

With Stars content of sitting back they caught the hosts on a brake with Namibian, Henricho Botes giving the visitors an early lead with a well taken header in the 18th minute following a good cross from troublesome winger, Joseph Molongoane.

The Glamour Boys did not lie down, and in the 27th minute they were rewarded when Tshabalala grabbed his fifth goal of the season with a well taken ground shot giving goalkeeper, Tapuwa Kapini no chance. It was Tshabalala’s third goal in three games against Stars. It was Tshabalala’s strike that separated the two sides early this season at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Three minutes later, the dreadlocked midfielder was in the thick of things again with his flying header going just wide after a superb cross from Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

With 20 minutes left on the clock, Chiefs desperately searched for a winner with Thomas Sweswe forcing a save out of Kapini from 35 yards out.

Chiefs were awarded a penalty when Josta Dladla was alleged to have been brought down inside the 18 area box with assistant referee, Shaheem Salot pointing to the spot.

Frustration mounted on the visitors with substitute, Louis Renteria getting his marching orders from referee, Jacob Frolick. Jose Torrealba scored from the rebound after his earlier strike was saved by Kapini.

Substitute, Kaizer Motaung Jr added more misery to Steve Khompela men when he netted from a close range the third goal in the 84th minute as Amakhosi registered their third consecutive win in the PSL since the win against Bidvest Wits on November, 29.

Chiefs will now welcome Bloemfontein Celtic at Super Stadium on Saturday and kick off for that game is at 20h15.
