Chiefs official statement on the Arthur Zwane verdict

Kaizer Chiefs is utmost disappointed once more in the manner in which the South African Football Association (Safa) has handled the verdict of the Arthur Zwane doping matter, releasing it to the media before communicating it to the player and the club.

Certain newspapers journalists literally read the judgement to club chairman Kaizer Chiefs forwarded and other club top officials on Tuesday, February 03, 2004, which further endorses the club’s suspicions that the case was long pre-determined and judged by Safa and some sectors of the media.

Kaizer Chiefs is equally shocked about the sentence itself as it believes the evidence forwarded to the Safa disciplinary committee (DC) was strong enough to warrant a lesser or lenient punishment.

Furthermore procedures followed in this case leave much to be desired and could prejudice other players finding themselves in a similar predicament in the future.

The club is going to engage the player on seeking legal opinion in as far as what course of action to pursue.
