Chiefs off to Durban

With only three days to go before the eagerly awaited cup final between Kaizer Chiefs and arch rivals Orlando Pirates - all the talk around the country has focused solely on the first Cup Final between the two Soweto giants since 1988.

A cup final that has been eighteen years in the making will be played away from Soweto and indeed far away from Johannesburg in the sunnier climate of Kwa-Zulu Natal. Although Chiefs would have preferred for the game to be played in Johannesburg so that more of The Amakhosi faithful could have witnessed the game live Chiefs have now begun to live with the fact that the game will be in Durban.

With that in mind Ernst Middendorp and his charges packed their bags and boarded an early afternoon flight on Wednesday heading for Durban, the Chiefs coach explains further. “We thought this being a Cup Final it would be better for us to get there earlier so that we can get accustomed to conditions and also soak up the atmosphere, whenever a Cup Final comes to a city the place has a buzz about it will nice to see how things are progressing there ahead of the game”.

All of Chiefs preparations will be behind closed doors in Durban. www.kaizerchiefs.com will bring you behind the scenes insight with team news and pictures as Chiefs get ready for the final. Ernst Middendorp’s final engagement ahead of the game will be when he addresses the media at a press conference on Thursday at midday; captain Cyril Nzama and team manager Bobby Motaung will join him at the conference.
