It’s scorching hot in Polokwane this afternoon as Kaizer Chiefs take on Polokwane City in the DStv Premiership for their 14th league match of the 2023/24 season.
The two teams meet for the first time since Polokwane City returned to top flight football after gaining promotion from the First Division at the end of last season.
The hosts started the season well but have had a tough time recently, failing to win any of their last five league matches They lost 3-0 last time out against TS Galaxy two weeks ago. They have also made coaching changes in the last few weeks, with Phuti Mohafe taking over from Lehlohonolo Seema.
Chiefs, on the other hand, will want to make it two wins in a row after collecting maximum points in the Soweto derby away to Moroka Swallows a fortnight ago.
Amakhosi and City are separated on the log only by goal difference, sitting 8th and 9th respectively, each with 17 points after 13 outings in the DStv Premiership this season.
Coach Cavin Johnson will once again have to do without the quartet of George Matlou, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Keagan Dolly, Ashley Du Preez, who are injured, and Itumeleng Khune, who is unvailable for selection.
Following the win the against the Dube birds, coach Johnson has decided to start the game with an unchanged team from the previous match.
The formation is also the same as he keeps his 4-3-3.
Bruce Bvuma is the goalkeeper.
S’fiso Hlanti is left-back, Edmilson Dove will be centre-back together with Given Msimango, and Reeve Frosler completes back four playing on the right.
Yusuf Maart holds the midfield with Sibongiseni Mthethwa. They are joined by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo in an attacking playmaker role.
On the wings, Chiefs will have Pule Mmodi on the left and last game’s goalscorer, Christain Saile, on the right.
Ranga Chivaviro spearheads attack.
Maart will wear the captain’s armband once again.
This afternoon’s referee is Jelly Chavani. He will be assisted by Khamusi Razwimisani and Kgara Mokoena. The match’s fourth official is Romeo Matibidi.
