Chiefs looking to soar above Birds

Kaizer Chiefs will take to the field against Moroka Swallows on Saturday evening full of confidence having won three of their last five league games.

Most recently, the Amakhosi triumphed 1-3 away from home against Santos in Cape Town. Swallows though have not had an easy ride winning one of their last five games and drawing one while losing three games, including a midweek defeat at the hands of Chiefs fellow title chasers Mamelodi Sundowns.

Swallows did show a marked improvement in the Sundowns game and looked better than the team who were defeated 5-1 by Ajax a few weeks ago, and will be hoping for a turn around in fortunes once again. The going won’t be easy for Swallows as Chiefs are top of the table and hoping to open up the gap on the chasing pack. If one looks at past results history does favour Chiefs.

The Amakhosi have netted eight goals in their last five league games where as the faucet like Swallows defense has seen eleven goals fly past them into the back of the net.

The game at the FNB Stadium will not be an easy one but Chiefs will feel confident that they will be able to leave with all three points if one takes current form into account. Swallows coach Gavin Hunt is adamant that his team will be able to cruise to victory against Chiefs. Given the way Chiefs are playing at the present it is safe to say that is a task easier said than done. Earlier in the season, Chiefs and Swallows played to a 1-1 draw at the Johannesburg Stadium. It was a game, which marked a turning point in Chiefs season as Gert Schalkwyk made his first start for Chiefs and amazingly enough scored on debut.

The game is also still remembered for Chiefs missing two great chances to wrap up things right at the end as Shoes Moshoeu and Songwe Chalwe went narrowly close to winning the game for Chiefs. Swallows lanky Senegalese striker levelled matters the last time around after Chiefs had taken the lead, he will be one of the players Chiefs will be a close eye on come Saturday evening.
