A late goal lifted champions Kaizer Chiefs to the top of the Castle Premiership on Wednesday, setting up a thrilling finale to the season.

Emmanuel Ngobese scored an 88th-minute winner to give Chiefs a 1-0 victory at SuperSport United in front of a capacity 40 000 crowd at Pretoria's Loftus Versfeld and take them top ahead of arch rivals Orlando Pirates.

Both teams are on 59 points but Chiefs have a four-goal advantage on goal difference over Pirates and will almost certainly secure the championship again if they win at Bloemfontein Celtic in their final match on Sunday.

Any slip up would allow Pirates a chance to claim their second title in three years by winning at home to Umtata Bush Bucks the same day.

Chiefs's win on Wednesday helped them stretch their unbeaten league run to 18 matches.

During that sequence they have wiped out a nine-point Orlando lead.
