Kaizer Chiefs Legends team led by former Amakhosi midfielder Thabo ‘Tsiki Tsiki’ Mooki will face their Orlando Pirates counterparts, on Saturday afternoon in Dondotha Kwa-Zulu Natal in a game to inaugurate a Stadium in the name of former Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni.
The local Umfolozi Municipality is inaugurating a sports complex for the local community in honour of Sangweni who played for Pirates between 2011 and 2016, Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung feels the game allows Amakhosi to connect with more of their fans.
As she divulged, “over the past year our legends team has played in Malamulele, Ulundi and Emalahleni, these engagements have allowed us to connect with our fans in areas where our first team would not normally play. We are pleased to feature in a place where once again our fans get to interact with the team, we know games against Pirates are always entertaining and we expect this one to keep to the script.”
Chiefs legends coach Thabo Mooki has roped in several new players for the fans, and he feels the team will put on a spectacle for the fans, “we always try to have new players travel with us this time around we welcome Tefu Mashamaite, Willard Katsande, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Bevan Fransman and Thuso Phala. We have a well-balanced team and we are excited to honour a player like Sangweni who was always competitive when we played against him”.
Mooki did omit one player whom he then spoke of, “for the fans we had Collins Mbesuma with us for the first time. We created wonderful memories together in the 2004-05 season and it is good to team up with him again and let the fans see him in a Chiefs shirt again. We have a strong front along with Collins, we also have Siyabonga Nomvethe and David Radebe.”
Mooki will also be assisted by his former teammate and midfield partner Tshepo Molatedi, “Tshepo will be with me in the dugout, Tshepo has played in these games for us previously now he gets a different role.”
The game will kickoff at 15h00 on Saturday 18th May.
