Kaizer Chiefs Ladies will continue their Gauteng Women’s Provincial League campaign this weekend when they host Future Stars Ladies from the Vaal at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Sunday, 31 May 2026. Kick-off is scheduled for 11h00.

The fixture presents another important opportunity for Chiefs Ladies to continue building momentum in what has been a progressive introduction to competitive football for the newly established side under coach Unathi Mabena.

After three matches, Chiefs occupy seventh position on the league table with four points. The team opened their campaign with a challenging encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies before securing a draw against M.U.S.A United and then registering their first official victory with an impressive 2-1 win over JVW last weekend.

The team has shown steady improvement, with performances reflecting growing confidence and understanding within the squad. Mabena believes the team is beginning to show signs of growth and cohesion despite the challenges that come with building a new squad from scratch.

“We always understood that this process would require patience, consistency and commitment from everyone involved. What has pleased us is the response from the players after every match. We are seeing improvement in our structure, confidence and decision making,” Mabena says.

“Every game is an opportunity for us to continue building the identity of this team,” he continues, “The players are working hard and there is a strong willingness to learn and improve. We respect Future Stars because every match in this league is competitive, but our focus remains on continuing our own progress.”

Sunday’s fixture will also see the return of Lumka Qhekeka and Sinenhlanhla Nkosi, who are both back from injury and available for selection. There is further excitement around midfielder Bontle Khanye, who could make her official debut for Chiefs after becoming available for selection ahead of the encounter.

Khanye says she is eager to finally contribute on the field after watching the opening matches from the sidelines.

“It’s exciting to finally be available because every player wants to be part of this journey and contribute to the team,” she says, adding, “The environment in the squad has been positive and motivating from the beginning. You can see the commitment from everyone involved and as players we understand the responsibility that comes with representing Kaizer Chiefs. We know we are building something important and every player wants to contribute towards that journey.”

Future Stars Ladies travel to Johannesburg looking to recover after losing their last two matches following an opening victory at the start of the campaign.
