The U17 National Team is in Gambia to participate in that country's 10th Anniversary Peace Football Tournament. The Gambian Football Association is hosting a Tournament featuring nine countries that have been divided into three groups. Group A features, Gambia, Mali and Sierra Leone. Group B features Senegal, Guinea Bissau and Tunisia. South Africa is in group C with Guinea Conakry and Liberia.
The event started on Sunday, 18 July 2004 and to date the following matches have been played:
18.07.04 Senegal 0 G/Bissau 1
18.07.04 Gambia 1 Mali 0
19.07.04 Liberia 1 G/Conakry 3
19.07.04 Gambia 3 S/Leone 2
20.07.04 G/Bissau 2 Tunisia 0
South Africa played their first match last night and they beat Guinea Conakry 2 - 1. Goals were scored by Tlou Segolela in the 2nd minute and Thulani Lukhele in the 32nd minute. The remainder of the matches are as follows:
21.07.04 Senegal vs Tunisia 4.00pm
21.07.04 Mali vs S/Leonne 6.00pm
21.07.04 South Africa vs Liberia 8.00pm
The semi finals will be contested between the winners of each group plus the second best runner up Team. In Group A, the host country Mali is through whilst in Group B Guinea Bissau won through. In group C, South Africa and Guinea Conakry will fight for the first position as both countries have three points.
