Kaizer Chiefs.………………..0
The much-awaited top-of-the-table Castle Premiership clash between Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs ended in a goalless draw to leave both sides on 41 points.
But despite the fact there were no goals, the match was a cracking affair with the near capacity crowd leaving the stadium happy. A draw was also a fair reflection of what was a great match and a good advert for the local game.
The match started 45 minutes late due to the big crowd that was still outside the stadium when the scheduled kick-off was supposed to take place. But despite the delay, the players were full of action for the opening half that despite not producing a goal was very exciting.
Ajax could have opened the scoring on the 13th minute but Wildfred Mugeyi’s diving header from an Ashely Opperman cross went narrowly wide. Just two minutes later, Brian Baloyi in the Chiefs goal made a great save, diving at the feet of the onrushing Brett Evans after the Ajax man had outstripped the Chiefs defence.
The Chiefs goalkeeper may have made a great save, but he was still looking shaky and a bit rusty having not played for a long while. On the 20th minute Baloyi failed to punch the ball clear, but Stanton Fredericks was able to scramble the ball away.
But as the half progressed, Chiefs came into the match more and more and started to create chances. They had probably the best chance of the match when David Radebe was put through, but one-on-one with Ajax goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, the Chiefs striker hesitated and Josephs made a great save to keep the scoreline level at halftime.
The second half was far less intense, as both sides started to tire, and get comfortable with a draw. There were chances for both sides, but neither was able to take advantage.
As the match reached the last quarter it was clear that nobody was going to risk much, and as a result the match fizzled out.
