Chiefs give players and staff great sendoff

It was great fun at Kaizer Chiefs as we bade farewell to our players and their technical team, in a party that ended our season. The easy occasion drew a lot of sighs and relief as we reminisced on the eventful and dram-filled season that took us all through a roller-coaster ride of emotions.

The marathon thirty-league matches can best be remembered for a season of misfortunes; some courtesy of missed scoring opportunities whilst others; the result of the often ignorant and downright cruelty of officials. Well, the sooner we bury the memories the better as we now gear to reassemble both thought and strategy to map the way forward.

Our mini-party was just what we needed to drown our memories, and boy we do party when we want to at Naturena. The afternoon chill could not keep our spirits down as official, players and staff became one-big-happy-family!!

Team Manager Bobs was at his element best dishing out his vintage jokes only shared in moments like these. The Chairman kept his executive debonair self but was often amazed by the dancing talents of some of his staff members.

Picture Mama Grace and Bro Richard Langa our elders, the young Khune and company, yours truly and his supporters crew on the dance floor and imagine a happy family that just wanted to have some fun! Siyabonga Nkosi our export to the Bundesleaga later joined to reconnect with the Amakhosi ancestors. It was quite a humble experience to have him in the fun.

The formalities began with a somber moment of bidding goodbye to Yusuf Muhammad, our trusted Webmaster whose talent would be enjoyed by Canadians as he take residence in that part of the world. I hope he has stacked up on enough Winter material to withstand the freezing breezes of the North Pole. On a parting note, he promised to return to Mzantsi with enough skill and resource to tread on Kaizer’s footsteps by starting his own Mayfair-based Jalalabad United!!!

The party also paid tribute to three players that have amassed 450 appearances in the colours of the Amakhosi. Arthur Zwane stood top with 200 games, Fabian McCarthy with 150 and Gerald Sibeko with 100, a feat that qualifies them as true Khosi 4 Life soldiers!

These three received valuable autographed jerseys from master Chincha Guluva whose educated left foot scored memorable goals in a career that spanned a lengthy stint amongst legends such as Pele, George Best and Terry Venabels to mention a few.

Our party indeed was a well-deserved remedy to heal and help us recharge our batteries for the incumbent season. Whilst players head for different vacations, our offices shall however remain open to prepare for the Vodacom Challenge and the Telkom Charity Spectacular. There would most definitely be some friendly matches in the process. The Amakhosi Supporters Crew on the other hand would be out to register more members!

So, let us part knowing that the Amakhosi vessel is still braving the rough seas of the tough SA football and it would throttle and steam ahead to become the best amongst the rest.
