Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic will be aiming for his team to continue with their winning start to the season when they take on Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows in their second assignment of the 2011 – 2012 Absa Premiership season at the Dobsonville Stadium Wednesday evening.



The Amakhosi go into the game on the back of an opening day victory over Jomo Cosmos as well as a boost in personnel with first choice goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune could well return to the starting eleven, after he limped off injured during the first half of the Cosmos victory.



Swallows for their part won their opening game coming from behind to defeat Santos 3-1 in Cape Town, with both teams displaying good early season form, the game is poised to be an exciting and an offensive one with either side showing strong offensive capabilities in their opening games.



Recent historyM



Last season Chiefs managed to defeat Swallows in both league encounters by a 1-0 score line, their away victory during the 2010 – 2011 season was their first on the road against the Birds since the 2006 – 2007 season.



Indeed the Amakhosi managed to do the double over Swallows for the first time since the 2003 – 2004 season last term, which is an indication of the closeness of clashes between the sides in recent years.



Of the last ten meetings between the teams are dead locked at 4 wins each while 2 other games have ended in a draw. Four of the last five league encounters between the sides have seen the winners win by no more than a single goal.



History



Chiefs and Swallows have a long and colourful history spanning more than three decades, since 1985 the Amakhosi have faced Swallows in 26 away games and have managed to win half of those matches while losing 6 and drawing 7.



Overall Chiefs have had the better of their rivals winning 28 of their 53 clashes over the past 26 years, losing 11 and drawing 14 of those games, the 53 clashes between the sides have produced a total of 111 goals at an average of 2.10 goals per game.
