Defending champions Kaizer Chiefs beat Wits University 2-1 in a Castle Premiership league game played on Saturday night at the Oppenheimer Stadium in Orkney.

Despite the fact that Wits took the lead in the 15th minute through Stewart Murisa and went into first half break still in the lead, Chiefs took the field for the second half with a winning mentality.

Zimbabwean international midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha, who was missed during the Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Chiefs, equalised for the Naturena-based outfit in the 70th minutes, and the club's striker David Radebe registered his first league goal of the season six minutes later.

The match saw the introduction of Chiefs' debutant Gert Schalkwyk, who was ironically signed from Wits at the end of last season.
