Kaizer Chiefs were drawn against archrivals Orlando Pirates in the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup.

The Nedbank Cup Last 32 draw took place on Thursday, 28 January. The competition brings the PSL teams head-to-head with NFD (First Division) sides and clubs that qualified from Safa’s amateur ranks.

The draw was held at the Nedbank offices in Sandton.

Amakhosi coach Steve Komphela, who was present to witness the draw, commented afterwards: “I knew, I had a feeling that this would happen. It is good and exciting for football. We will have played Pirates a few weeks before this Nedbank Cup fixture in a league Derby and that will have given us some more info on them.”

Mamelodi Sundowns are the current holders of the Nedbank Cup trophy. The last time Chiefs won the trophy was in 2013.

The games for the Last 32 will be played in the first week of March.

The final of this 9th edition of the Nedbank Cup will be played on 28 May. The winner will face the Nedbank Ke Yona team, which gets handpicked from thousands of aspiring footballers between the ages of 18 and 25. Last season, the Ke Yona squad was selected under the supervision of Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba.
