Moroka Swallows managed a 1-0 win over favourites Kaizer Chiefs at the Rand Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Swallows will take it as sweet revenge after the Amakhosi pipped them in the Coke Cup semifinals in December.

Swallows gave Chiefs an early scare when lanky Lungisani Ndlela latched onto a cross from Edzai Kasinauyo in the fourth minute, but his header went just wide of Rowen Fernandez goal.

In the 37th minute Collins Mbesuma saw his shot from range rattle Etafia’s crossbar, a good chance goes begging for Chiefs.

The first half ended with both coaches looking disappointed with their team’s performances. Chiefs came out looking for goals and in-form midfielder, Emmanuel Ngobese made sure Etafia was awake with a good shot that was easily saved.

In the 63rd minute Ngobese again drew out an emphatic save from Etafia, from the tightest of angles, after he showed great skill making his way down the wing.

Then in the 87th minute Shaun Permall had the best opportunity of the game when he beat Chiefs’ line of defence and rounded Fernandez, however his resulting shot was high and wide of the target, a chance he really should have converted.

Both teams had chances to win the game however; it was Swallows who managed to convert after substitute Dennis Lota had the easiest of finishes into an empty net, after he received a cross with Fernandez off his line.

The final nail in Chiefs’ coffin coming late in the 90th minute a disappointing end to a thrilling game for Kaizer Chiefs.
