Bloemfontein played host to the South African Sports Awards on Friday evening and Kaizer Chiefs Chairman Kaizer Motaung was amongst the many sportsmen and woman, as well as coaches and administrators who were amongst the recipients of various awards.

The recipients of the various prizes were fortunate enough to walk away with a prize made out of Platinum or Gold courtesy of the Department of Sports Arts and Culture in the Free State who hosted the event.

The Chiefs Chairman, who was unable to attend the ceremony, was in good company as one of the recipients of a 'Special Lifetime Achievement' award for his contribution to sports and in particular soccer.

The World Champions Springbok rugby team marched off with most of the honours, with Bryan Habana winning both the sports star and sportmen of the year, while the only soccer player to win on the night was Banyana Banyana player Portia Modise. During his time as a player the Chiefs chairman dazzled many on fields around the country, and he is still recognized for his achievements as a player and after that as a successful soccer administrator.

The Chiefs Chairman along with boxing trainer Mzimasi Mnguni, and the President of the International Cricket Council Ray Mali were recipients of the Steve Tshwete Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award named after the late Tshwete who was South Africa’s first post apartheid sports minister is handed out to the persons who have over time made a difference in South African sport.

It is the second such award the Chiefs Chairman has received in recent times. A few months ago he was amongst a group of 50 South African soccer players and administrators awarded by the Confederation of African Football as part of their 50th year anniversary celebrations for their contributions to the game of football.
