A hat-trick from Golden Arrows striker, Richard Henyekane and an own-goal from Kaizer Chiefs defender, Mokete Tsotetsi was enough to knock defending champions, Kaizer Chiefs out of the Telkom Knockout.

The hosts got off to a perfect start when striker, Henyekane found the back of the net with a first time grass cutter outside the 18 area. This was following some neat work by his teammate, Philane Shange. Then Gert Schalkwyk came close to getting an equaliser when his shot went just wide of Helton Da Rocha’s goals.

Things got worse for the Glamour Boys at the 22nd minute when central defender, Mokete Tsotetsi headed the ball to his own net after a neatly taken free-kick by Joseph Musonda. Jose Torrealba watched his shot going just wide of Helton Da Rocha’s goals. This was following a sublime cross from a veteran winger, Arthur Zwane that the Venezuelan-born did well to control beating his marker Siyabonga Sangweni on the turn.

There was no stopping Golden Arrows striker, Henyekane completing his brace when he collected a pass from Kagiso Senamela with Kaizer Chiefs defence in no man’s land, the hosts capitalised.

Chiefs mentor Muhsin Ertugral made two quick changes bringing on Thuso Phala in the place of Reneilwe Letsholonyane at the 29th minute and he brought Gerald Sibeko for Ghanaian defender, Jonathan Quartey at the 36th minute.

Chiefs tried to come back at the beginning of the second half but found Arrows defence in an uncompromising mood. But the Lamontville based side was not finished though as Richard Henyankane grabbed his hattrick at the 67th minute making it 4-0 to the hosts. This was following a brilliant run from Golden Arrows leftback, Mzivukile Tom whose cross was well connected by Henyekane.

It was Zwane though who scored the goal of the day, pulling one goal back for the visitors when he scored a scorcher outside the 18 area. The veteran midfielder collected a pass from Siphiwe Tshabalala about five metres from the halfway line, cutting inside from the left before unleashing a rocket giving Arrows goalkeeper no chance.

It was too little to late though, for the boys from Phefeni as they bow out on the cup they won in (with) style last season.
